The Librotraficante Movement
From Banned to boom.
Experience the Latino Literary Renaissance.
Donating Books to the Librotraficante Underground Libraries
Mail copies of the books banned in Tucson ISD to the Under Ground Library of your choice.
Email us a list of the books that you are submitting. (Click here to contact us.) This helps us keep track of which books are housed at which Under Ground Library. This will also help us allocate books evenly to each location. This will also help us thank donors.
The Tucson ISD ban will not erase our history, nor dictate the Cannon of Chicano Literature. Therefore, we do want to compile full sets of the banned books, (A list of the banned books is available by clicking here.) but we also want other brilliant texts of local history, over looked history.
You may also nominate an Under Ground Library in your city or town.
Click here to read the criteria for choosing Librotraficante Under Ground Library Sites.
Please note, although we prefer not to house Under Ground Libraries at schools, we will work with schools interested in bolstering a Mexican American Studies Program. Obviously, we do encourage all teaching institutions to carry the Cannon of Chicano Literature.
Please know that every partner in this endeavor is a not for profit organization. We do not have extensive staffs. Thus calling backs, fielding general questions, giving assignments to volunteers, even emailing back sometimes may be difficult. However, all of us appreciate and need your help.
Contact individual sites through their websites. They will be able to tell you of other volunteer opportunities with their organizations.
Thank you for your support!
