Highlights of Coverage of the Librotraficante Movement

These are just some of highlights of coverage of Tony Diaz, El Librotraficante and The Librotraficante Movement. The Librotraficante Caravan was  a huge success making its way to defy Arizona House Bill 2281 which prohibits Latino Studies. This was a trip to champion Freedom of Speech and to thwart Censorship. We smuggled 1,000 books worth about $20,000 from donations from all around the country across the Southwest and ending in Tucson, AZ. We established 4 Undergound Libraries in Houston, San Antonio, Albequerque, and Tucson-more are in the works.

International:

England:  "Happily, there is pushback occurring against such anti-intellectualism. One of the most vibrant examples is a protest group called Librotraficante, or Book Trafficker. Organised by Tony Diaz . . ." Patricia Williams, THE GUARDIAN

The Librotraficante Movement was part of the coverage of Primer Impacto's coverage of Arizona's ban on Ethnic Studies. The program airs in Spanish all over the U.S., Mexico, Central America, and South America: http://noticias.univision.com/primer-impacto/videos/video/2012-04-27/estudiantes-en-arizona-luchan-por-estudios-etnicos

Mamiverse: I posted several pieces from the road during the Librotraficante:  http://www.mamiverse.com/for-mama-our-time-is-now-6202/

My favorite title came from a piece by Huffington Post writer Jeff Biggers: Beyond Tucson’s Banished Books and Metal Detectors: If Tony Diaz Were Superintendent of Schoolshttp://blogs.alternet.org/speakeasy/2012/03/16/beyond-tucsons-banished-books-and-metal-detectors-if-tony-diaz-were-superintendent-of-schools/

This is a very in-depth piece on myself and the Librotraficante Movement.

"To resist that censorship, Diaz envisions Librotraficante becoming more than just a fight against Tucson, but a national movement to promote Ethnic Studies education. He already has proposed a degree in Librotraficante studies."
