Vote to Restore the American Dream in Arizona
Vote to Restore the American Dream in Arizona. A Great Nation Does not Fear Kids Reading Books.
Librotraficante School Board Campaign: We will be inspiring 6 Campaigns for School Board Seats across the Southwest and other parts of the country. The most urgent races are in the Tucson Unified School District where 3 of 5 posts are up for election November 6, 2012. This is the School Board that outlawed Mexican American Studies. We are in touch with members of the community and are awaiting their selection of a slate of candidates. We will report on that as soon as we know.
People across the country must donate to the campaigns of true community representatives whose agenda is creating the best schools possible, whose mission it is to foster a strong intellectual foundation for young scholars. Empowering all of us to know our history, to tell our stories is a vital part of the intellectual process. On this website, we will post criteria to look for in identifying as well as developing such candidates.
We also ask all Americans to inspire their friends and families in Tucson to vote to restore the American Dream in Arizona.
Although at this moment it is only Mexican American Studies under attack, just as other states copied Arizona’s anti-immigration laws, other states will copy Arizona’s Anti-Intellectual Laws. If we allow Arizona House Bill 2281 to stand-it will be illegal to teach Asian Studies. If we allow Arizona House Bill 2281 to stand-it will be illegal to teach African American Studies.
Our goal is not simply to re-institute Mexican American Studies. The Librotraficantes profess Quantum Demographics. We look forward to the day when we are all so profoundly fulfilled by knowing our own histories that we have the wisdom and knowledge to discover bridges between seemingly disparate cultures.
Furthermore, this does not mean that we will exclusively or automatically support Latino candidates. In fact, there are some Latino candidates who we must vote out of office. We must champion individuals with the right hearts and minds who understand that broad shoulders and broader imaginations are the foundation for the American Dream.
This Intellectual Renaissance begins with your vote, your support of visionary candidates for School Board.
